The NBA and NHL are rolling through the first half of the season as teams establish themselves. With quite a few big games scheduled today, let’s take a look at how we think three bouts will play out.
Miami Heat (-8.5) over Detroit Pistons
The first game we’re going to take a look at is between the Miami Heat and Detroit Pistons. The Pistons, with a record of 6-19 this season, have played awfully on the road.
They have a 2-11 record when traveling and will be without PG Cade Cunningham tonight. After a 122-112 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies, our choice here is clear.
The Miami Heat are finally healthy, something they haven’t been in a long time. They’re coming off a loss at home to the Memphis Grizzlies yesterday but should be able to bounce back.
They’ve won three of their last five games this season and have an 8-4 record at home. Look for the Heat to come away with a win over the Pistons tonight.
Winnipeg Jets (-120) over Florida Panthers
This season, the Florida Panthers are off to a pretty rough start. They have an overall record over .500, but they’re 6-7-1 on the road.
They’ve gone 2-3 in their last five games but have won their last two games this season. As a unit, they’re scoring 3.48 goals per game, but they might have trouble against Winnipeg.
The reason we say this is because Winnipeg’s defense is one of the best in the NHL. Allowing an average of 2.57 goals per game, the Jets have won four of their last five games.
After a huge 5-2 win over the Anaheim Ducks, we’ll take them at home over the Panthers. Keep in mind that the Jets are 9-3-0 at home this season.
Dallas Mavericks (+4.5) over Denver Nuggets
The Denver Nuggets are without several players in tonight’s game, namely Michael Porter Jr. They’ve lost two games in a row, primarily due to these injuries.
Their most recent game was a 121-106 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans. Somehow, they still come in as the favorites in this game, which is shocking to us.
The Dallas Mavericks have reported no injured players and are coming off a huge win. They took down the Phoenix Suns 130-11 and will carry that momentum into this game. With a record of 12-11, look for the Mavericks to pull off another win here.
