Match Day Notes

  • After entering the Champions League as heavy favorites, Liverpool find their backs against the wall in the second leg of the Round of 16. The Reds fell to Atletico Madrid 1-0 in the first leg on the road. To make matters worse, Liverpool followed up that showing by losing 3-0 against Watford over the weekend, their first Premier League loss in 44 matches. However, Liverpool will have their home crowd behind them in the second leg and will be hungry to avenge their loss a couple weeks ago. Expect Jurgen Klopp’s club to come out sharp and focused.
  • PSG are looking to recover from a 2-1 defeat at Dortmund in the second leg. Unfortunately, spectators may not be able to witness the attempted comeback. With the coronavirus spreading at an alarming rate, the PSG-Dortmund match may be played behind closed doors to minimize risk. Marquinhos, defender for PSG, is none too happy: “That would be a shame. If it is to be played behind closed doors, I think the best thing would be to cancel because we want our supporters and they will want theirs too.”
  • Will Tottenham have enough to overcome a one-goal disadvantage in the second leg against RB Leipzig? Although the club has looked mightily unimpressive of late, there’s still plenty of hope after their historic comeback against Ajax to advance to the Champions League final a year ago. The Spurs will be without stars Son Heung-min and Harry Kane in the Round of 16 match.

It’s time to get your picks in for the Champions League Last 16 Challenge. Good luck!
