Tennessee sports: Pat Mahomes

  • The Titans’ unlikely playoff run finally came to end on Sunday with a 35-24 loss to the Chiefs in Kansas City. Tennessee’s tried-and-true game plan looked to be working flawlessly early as the Titans jumped out to a 17-7 lead in the second quarter behind Derrick Henry and the running attack. However, Patrick Mahomes and co. proved to be too much in the second half. It was an incredible journey for a team that looked lost six games into the season. Four Titans will represent Tennessee in this weekend’s Pro Bowl: Derrick Henry, Ryan Tannehill, Brett Kern, and Jurrell Casey.
  • The Grizzlies are absolutely red hot, taking down the Rockets and Cavaliers at home last week to improve their winning streak to seven games. It is their longest winning streak since the 2014-2015 season and is the longest current streak in the NBA. Memphis is now 1.5 games up on the Spurs for the 8th spot in the Western Conference. The Grizzlies continue to find different heroes each night. On Friday night, it was Dillon Brooks, who finished with 26 points. Memphis is 13-0 this year when Brooks goes for over 20.
  • College Gameday is headed to Kansas this Saturday as the Jayhawks take on the Tennessee Volunteers at home. Tennessee comes into the game 3-2 in conference play after a win at Vanderbilt and a loss at Georgia last week. It will be the 300th consecutive sellout at Allen Fieldhouse and will be a prime opportunity for the Volunteers to make a statement on the national stage.
