Wilder – Fury 2 News and Notes

  • The first fight between Wilder (42-0-1, 41 KOs) and Fury (29-0-1, 20 KOs) took place in December 2018. The bout went the distance and ended in a split draw, which meant Wilder retained his WBC heavyweight belt. Many fans believed Fury had done enough to earn the win. Fury has called this fight “unfinished business” for him, and he’s not shy about it: “Anyone who thinks Wilder can’t be knocked down is an idiot. I will prove how powerful I am. I am going to make him quit.”
  • A big storyline leading up to Saturday’s fight is Fury’s decision to switch trainers just a couple months ago. Fury swapped out head trainer Ben Davison for SugarHill Steward. Although he has faced criticism for the decision, Fury insists that the move was necessary for him to prepare for the Wilder rematch.
  • Wilder, despite his undefeated record and 41 career knockouts, has been criticized for his fighting style his entire career. The heavyweight champ is confident that there’s more in his repertoire than just power, and he points to the first fight against Fury for proof of his finesse and skill. Fury is very elusive and Wilder will be challenged to put those fundamental skills to the test on Saturday.
